University programme leading to a professional qualification in Physiotherapy
Vincix Futuro assists international students interested in attending an accredited university programme in Romania in the field of physiotherapy and rehabilitation.
The programme is intended for students who wish to acquire the academic, practical and clinical training required to obtain the qualification provided for under Romanian law.
Romania is a Member State of the European Union. A qualification awarded by a properly accredited Romanian university may be submitted to the competent authority of another country for professional recognition, in accordance with the European and national legislation applicable in the destination country.
Structure of the university programme
The programme normally lasts 3 academic years and includes theoretical education, practical activities and clinical placements in accordance with the university curriculum.
The curriculum may include subjects such as:
- anatomy and physiology;
- biomechanics and kinesiology;
- functional assessment;
- general and specialist physiotherapy;
- orthopaedic rehabilitation;
- neurological rehabilitation;
- cardiorespiratory rehabilitation;
- physical therapy;
- research methodology;
- practical activities and clinical placements.
The curriculum, number of credits, attendance requirements, locations of practical activities and examination procedures are established exclusively by the university, in compliance with Romanian legislation and the applicable academic regulations.
Practical and clinical activities must be completed in accordance with the procedures authorised by the university. Any possibility of completing part of the placement at an affiliated institution must be evaluated and formally approved by the competent university.
Admission requirements
Admission is subject to verification of the requirements established by the university and Romanian legislation.
Applicants are generally required to provide:
- a secondary-school diploma granting access to university education;
- identity document;
- birth certificate;
- medical certificate;
- complete school documentation;.
Professional recognition in another country
Physiotherapy is a regulated profession in many countries.
Obtaining a Romanian university qualification does not automatically authorise the graduate to practise as a physiotherapist in another country.
Graduates wishing to work outside Romania must apply to the competent authority in the destination country for recognition of their professional qualification.
Within the European Union, professional mobility is governed principally by:
- Directive 2005/36/EC on the recognition of professional qualifications;
- Directive 2013/55/EU, amending Directive 2005/36/EC;
- the national legislation through which each Member State implements the European rules;
- the professional and registration requirements applicable in the destination country.
Recognition application
The application must be submitted to the authority responsible for the profession of physiotherapist in the country in which the graduate intends to practise.
Documents that may be required include:
- final university diploma;
- academic transcript;
- detailed curriculum;
- official syllabi for the subjects completed;
- documentation showing the total number of training hours;
- certificates concerning practical activities and clinical placements;
- a certificate from the competent Romanian authority confirming the professional value of the qualification;
- evidence of the right to practise the profession in Romania;
- a certificate of conformity with Directive 2005/36/EC, where applicable;
- a certificate of professional good standing, where applicable;
- official translations;
- any additional documentation requested during the assessment.
The definitive list of documents is established by the competent authority in the destination country and may change over time.
Physiotherapy is also one of the professions for which the European Professional Card – EPC procedure may be available within the European Union.
The EPC is an electronic procedure supporting the management of professional recognition. It does not, by itself, mean that every qualification is recognised automatically.
